How to use the Web Card Reader
The Web Card Reader allows an Access Controller to login and swipe RIW cardholders and visitor passes, select and award competencies (including pending competencies) and perform spot checks using a web based reader/browser. A Spot Checker can also log in to perform spot checks. Team features as seen in the Android and iOS RIW App are not available using the Web Card Reader.
The Web Card Reader can be used from any desktop, laptop or smart device with an internet connection.
Go to https://app.riw.net.au/ and click on Web Card Reader link at the bottom of the page, which will direct you to the Web Card Reader page. Alternatively you can reach the Web Card Reader direct at https://cardchecker.riw.net.au/.
You must be an Access Controller or Spot Checker to use the Web Card Reader function (please refer to the article How does a company assign an Access Controller or Spot Checker? for more information).
To access the menu for swiping, you can either use the existing built-in camera on your desktop/laptop/smart device, or, if you have a QR scanner gun attached, you can select that option.
Note: A full Web Card Reader User Guide is available on the Web Card Reader desktop located on the bottom of the screen.
Once you have scanned your card, you will receive an authentication message. You can either receive the authentication code via email or SMS by clicking Send. Once you have received the authentication code and entered the numbers, click on Authenticate. If you cannot select either email or SMS, please check with your Primary Employer to ensure you have an active email address and mobile number.
Select the Network you are currently working on, then Project and Site. Once all has been selected, click Proceed.
Once you have selected the Network, Project and Site, you will have access to the menu for Swiping, Spot Checking, Awarding Competencies and viewing and changing your Location.
By Clicking on the Swipe In button on the bottom of the screen, you will have the ability to swipe in a cardholders RIW card by either using the in-built camera, a QR code scanner gun or by using the Forgotten Card feature.
When you have swiped in the card, the cardholders details will appear. If you are happy to confirm the swipe – click Confirm Swipe.
Once you have confirmed the swipe, the cardholder record will be displayed on the main screen as part of the Swipe History.
By Clicking on the Swipe Out button, you will have the ability to swipe out a cardholders by either using the in-built camera, a QR code scanner gun or by using the Forgotten Card feature.
If the Web Card Reader User is a Spot Checker only, or if the Access Controller wants to spot check an RIW card, click on the Spot Checks tab to Spot Check RIW cardholder details. Follow the same steps as Swiping in an RIW Cardholder.
To award a competency, click on the Competencies tab to begin awarding competencies to cardholder profiles. Only Access Controllers can award competencies.
Select the Competency Category and Competency unit to be awarded to the cardholder. Click Proceed.
Once you have clicked on Award, you will have the ability to swipe in an RIW Card by either using the in-built camera, a QR code scanner gun or by using the Forgotten Card feature.
Once you have scanned the cardholders card, you can then award the competency unit to their profile along with any evidence.
